Email from Mrs. Lee on March 27, 2020

Good afternoon, La Cueva community.

By now you have heard that all schools in the state of New Mexico will operate much differently for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Students and staff will not return to campus in the traditional sense, but will be engaging in instruction and content virtually. While the planning for the Continuous Learning Model has begun, there are many details yet to be determined. Most urgent will be meeting the needs of senior students. I cannot express to you how disappointed we are that our spring days will not be filled with various senior activities and celebrations; however, we are committed to celebrating once the health order is lifted or eased, and we hope our seniors will remain engaged in the planning of those events when it is time.

I am including a link in this message which will help us identify the technology needs of our families. Please complete it as soon as possible. Your responses will assist us in ensuring curriculum and instructional access for all of our students. Our hope is that we will be ready to re-engage with students on or around April 13th. We miss our students and are eager for ‘schooling’ to continue! If your student has not been checking their emails through StudentVue, they should do so daily at this point. Many teachers are reaching out and those relationships are beneficial during this time.

The following weeks will involve much planning and consideration of school specific needs; as we have more information, I will share it with you. For now, our campus is still closed though we are working on a plan for students to obtain locker and locker room possessions soon. If you have an urgent need, please email me at, and I will respond as quickly as possible.

I am so grateful for the community support at this time. Have a good weekend, and stay well.

Principal Dana Lee

Email from Mrs. Lee on March 13, 2020:

Hello, La Cueva Community:

Thank you for your patience as we’ve navigated this highly unusual situation. In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, the PED and the NM Department of Health, have ordered all schools in the state of New Mexico to be closed for three weeks and to reopen on Monday, April 6th. During today’s press conference, the Governor and Secretary of Education Ryan Stewart announced that the state is waiving the statutory requirement for instructional hours; we will not need to make up the 10 missed days at the end of the year due to the mandated closure.

What else does this mean for our La Cueva students?

  • There will be no athletic events, activities, practices or rehearsals during this time
  • Students may not be on campus for any reason
  • Students are not expected to complete school work or assignments during this time (though they are welcome to finish prior assignments or use online resources to remediate or practice skills)
  • Teachers will not expect students to complete coursework during this time but may offer resources for practice or remediation

Once students return on April 6th, instruction will pick up where it left off on Wednesday, March 11th. During this time, we encourage our families and students to follow CDC guidelines regarding limiting exposure through the adjusting of social interactions. You can find more information on the CDC site.

Additionally, the school closure will impact many of our important calendar events. We are working diligently to re-schedule those events most important to our students. Prom was scheduled for March 21st, but will now be held May 2nd. More details will follow.
