Virtual Graduation & Senior Bear Crawl
Posted 5/21/20

Hello, Seniors & Senior Families.

I’m sure by now you have heard that APS will be holding a Virtual Graduation Ceremony.  We know this is not the news you were hoping to hear; however, we believe this will be a nice way to publicly acknowledge all of our Graduating Seniors. The district is working with Herff Jones, MarchingOrder & StageClips to put this production together. Although it will look very similar to the honors ceremony we just had, it will include the Valedictorian & Salutatorian speeches and an opportunity for each Senior to give a 10 second “selfie speech”- You will also get a professional clip designed just for you that you can post on Social Media after the ceremony.

These will air on June 28th; however, in the meantime we will need to gather some additional info from you. Please be on the lookout for a Google Form we will send via REMIND (and also post it on the website) that will ask for any awards, honors, and clubs you were in – these will be listed on your “slide” during the ceremony. We will use the other information from the Honors Ceremony with your College/future plans- however if you would like to change something, there will be a space to do that on the Google Form

Once we have uploaded everything into the program, you will receive an email from MarchingOrder and StageClips that will give you access to upload your “selfie speech” into their system.  We will keep you posted as we work through this project together.

The other exciting event we have coming up for you is the “La Cueva Class of 2020 Bear Crawl” (which may feel more like the personal graduation).  This will happen next Thursday May 28th from 4-7pm.  You will be broken down again by last names (A-H 4-5pm; I-P 5-6pm; Q-Z 6-7pm).  We will send out the specific route information as soon as it has been confirmed; however, here are some specifics for the event:

  1. There will only be 1 Senior allowed per car (unless they are siblings) *
  2. The Senior will need to be in the passenger seat with their Cap & Gown on before they are allowed to enter the parade line*
  3. The Senior’s name will need to be posted on the passenger side wind-shield, readable from the outside (this will allow for a more efficient process once you reach the horseshoe) *
  4. A professional picture will be taken, and diplomas will be handed out (you will receive a free 8x10 in the mail after the event)
  5. Decorate your cars

Seniors, we know this has been a difficult time for you. Please know that many people are involved in trying to make your senior season special and memorable.  These last two events will be all about you, the Class of 2020.

*#1-3 must be followed or you will not be allowed to get in line for the event. Remember,  the reason we are having a parade instead of a ceremony is because we are under health and safety orders from the Governor. Students who do not abide by the parade route rules and social distancing protocols will not be allowed to participate.

Please contact Mrs. Metzger (manus@aps.edu) with specific questions or concerns regarding either of these events.

Respectfully,

Dana Lee
