SCholarship List

The link below is a list of scholarships that our students have been awarded in the past, are sent directly to Mrs. Chandler, are local and La Cueva specific scholarships. Keep in mind some scholarships have very few people apply. Applying for these scholarships are not a guarantee but if you are awarded money, it is free money to help pay for school.

Other dates will also be listed on this document, including La Cueva meetings, virtual college fairs and other events that seniors may be interested in.

April Scholarship List

Below is a video of the presentation we made to seniors on Monday, March 15th which includes information on returning to school, upcoming activities (see flier below), scholarships and required documents needed for graduation. There is also a Q&A document where Mrs. Metzger, Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Lee answered the questions that were submitted during the presentation. Please know that everything is subject to change and this information is current as of March 15th.

Paying for College

Below are the links for the resources from the Paying for College presentation held on September 29, 2020. This presentation included information on financial aid (FAFSA) and scholarships.

Mrs. Chandler is available to meet with any La Cueva students and parents who want help filling out the FAFSA. Remember, for the Class of 2021 the application opens up on October 1, 2020. Below are other resources that are helpful in the process. To schedule an appointment with Mrs. Chandler go to her FAFSA Appointment scheduling site.

  • Make sure you are going to the website and never pay money to submit the FAFSA which is FREE.
  • You will be using your 2019 taxes so make sure you have a copy of parent and student taxes (if applicable) and W-2s before you start the application. See the image below for other documents you may need.
  • Try to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. Schools have priority deadlines and those are the dates they will start processing awards. Students who have their applications in by those dates, will be considered for the maximum amount of aid.

Many students and parents ask which parents information should be included on the FAFSA. Below is a graphic that will help determine "Who is my parent".

Senior Meeting Information

Below are links to all the information we shared during the Senior Meetings in September 2020.

Test Optional Schools

Some colleges have elected to go Test Optional for the 2020-21 application cycle. This means, you do not have to have an ACT or SAT test score for admissions. Below is a list posted by the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC). It is important to note that schools may be test optional for admissions but may still require a test score for scholarships. It is important to do your research by looking at each website for the schools you are interested in.

College Research Worksheet

Below is a link for a generic College Research Worksheet. I encourage you to make a copy of it and change it to make it your own. For instance, you can add a section or delete a question to list what is important to you. It is often hard to remember what each college offers when you are researching and it helps to write it down as you go.
