Class of 2021

SCholarship List and Important Dates

Every month, Mrs. Chandler will post a new list of scholarships that our students have been awarded in the past, one's that are sent directly to her, local and La Cueva specific scholarships. The new list will be posted here once updated. She will also send messages out via Remind and SynergyMail once the list is updated. Keep in mind some scholarships have very few people apply. Applying for these scholarships are not a guarantee but if you are awarded money, it is free money to help pay for school.

Other dates will also be listed on this document, including La Cueva meetings, virtual college fairs and other events that seniors may be interested in.

To Do List

Below is a list of items that seniors should consider doing and the deadlines

Test Optional Schools

Some colleges have elected to go Test Optional for the 2020-21 application cycle. This means, you do not have to have an ACT or SAT test score for admissions. Below is a list posted by the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC). It is important to note that schools may be test optional for admissions but may still require a test score for scholarships. It is important to do your research by looking at each website for the schools you are interested in.

College Research Worksheet

Below is a link for a generic College Research Worksheet. I encourage you to make a copy of it and change it to make it your own. For instance, you can add a section or delete a question to list what is important to you. It is often hard to remember what each college offers when you are researching and it helps to write it down as you go.

College Fairs

While we can't have our annual College Night this year, we do have the amazing opportunity to participate in two amazing virtual college fairs. One is a regional fair through the New Mexico College Access Counsel (NMCAC) and the other is through the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC).

ACT/SAT

All schools across the nation accept either the ACT or SAT so it is your choice which one you want to take. You will need to sign up on your own. If you are on Free or Reduced Price Lunch you can get a fee waiver from the Counseling Office. All juniors will be taking the SAT for free on April 14th as their high school exit exam. They can use this score to send to colleges.
