Senior End of the YEar Items

Cap and Gown Distribution - May 5th

Details will be sent out soon as to how the process will work. Students will be required to show an ID (these items were paid for and Campus Specialties will not release them without a photo ID). Students please try to complete your Next Step Plan, Senior Survey and Final Transcript before this date (see below for details). You can check the status of your requirements on the Senior Requirements page.

Cap and Gown Distribution times by the first letter of your last name:
A-H      1:00 - 1:45
I-P        1:45 - 2:15
Q-Z       2:15 - 3:00

Mandatory Senior Survey - New Due Date - May 5th. All seniors must fill this form. This form will ask about your plans after high school (college, military, career) and ask you to tell us about scholarships you received.

Mandatory Final Next Step Plan - DUE MAY 11th. Please check the Senior Requirements spreadsheet (linked below). If there is not an X by your name, we still need your Final Next Step Plan. The Next Step Plan Submission Form will allow you to tell us if you submitted it to your teacher already, or you can upload a copy of the paper form you received. If you did not turn it in and don't know where it is, you can fill out the fillable PDF version of the Final Next Step Plan. If you are doing the fillable PDF form, you will probably have questions and should look at Tips for Filling Out the PDF Next Step Plan. Please note, if you turned in your Next Step Plan to your teacher, they have not been able to enter the building yet. They will be setting up times over the next few weeks to collect items and have been instructed to turn in all Next Step Plans. Please check back often to see your status.

Final Transcript - all students need to fill out their request for their Final Transcript. All colleges will require you to submit a transcript showing you graduated. You only get one Final Transcript. When you have decided what college you are going to next year, please fill out your Final Transcript request via Parchment. You MUST select "Hold for Grades" on the Order Details page to let Mrs. Ade know that this is your Final Transcript request. Otherwise she will send it now and you will need to request your final again.

Fines - please login to StudentVUE and click on Fee link and see if you have any outstanding fees. Check back often as teachers will be updating fees over the next few weeks. These fees will only include things you owed before school let out. You will not be assessed fees for books/uniforms/etc that you haven't been able to turn in yet. Once we are able to collect items, if any are missing, there will be a fee assessed at that time. So don't lose things!

Yearbook orders are still being accepted. Go the Yearbook Order Center site and use our school code 7759 to order.

College Admissions Updates

The National Association of College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) has set up a website where colleges can post their specific information related to changes they are making to their admissions practices as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. While not all colleges have posted, there are over 600 colleges who have and more are being added each day. The information they are posting includes changes to college visits, letter of intent/commit dates, deposit dates and links to their websites for updates.

Financial Aid Information

Below is the PowerPoint presentation used for the Financial Aid Information night on September 23rd.

Mrs. Chandler is available to meet with any La Cueva students and parents who want help filling out the FAFSA. Remember, for the Class of 2020 the application opens up on October 1, 2019. Below are other resources that are helpful in the process. To schedule an appointment with Mrs. Chandler please call 505-823-2327 x33002 and talk to Mrs. Bash.

Financial Aid Information Night Presentation

  • Make sure you are going to the website and never pay money to submit the FAFSA which is FREE.
  • You will be using your 2018 taxes so make sure you have a copy of parent and student taxes (if applicable) and W-2s before you start the application. See the image below for other documents you may need.
  • Try to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. Schools have priority deadlines and those are the dates they will start processing awards. Students who have their applications in by those dates, will be considered for the maximum amount of aid.

                                                                   FAFSA documents needed

Many students and parents ask which parents information should be included on the FAFSA. Below is a graphic that will help determine "Who is my parent".

Senior Yearbook Pictures

Senior Pictures vs. Senior YEARBOOK pictures.   LCHS has a contract with Campos Photography for our Senior YEARBOOK pictures.  Which means all Seniors must take their yearbook picture with Campos.  They will provide the white shirt and black tie (for boys) and drape (for girls).  They will have sessions on campus on 9/16/19 for $10 or you can schedule a session at their studio. YOU MUST SIGN UP to attend either session.  These sessions fill up fast so please  go to click on "Schedule Senior Photos" and follow the instructions.  Again these are just the Senior Yearbook picture. Many parents want to have Senior Pictures done and you can do that through any organization you choose. In order to have your Senior appear in the Yearbook, you must have his/her photo taken by Campos Photography.

Communication Through

One of the primary ways we communicate with Seniors is through Parents and students can sign up to receive messages by following the instructions below.  We do not see your phone number or email address and the messages will be relevant to the senior year (college visits, application deadlines, presentation reminders, scholarship lists, etc.)

Important - if you are a Verizon Wireless customer, you have to download the app and turn on notifications to receive these important reminders. They are no longer allowing remind to send out text messages to their customers.

Simply text @lacueva20 to the number 81010

Don't have a mobile phone? Go to the Remind website on a desktop computer to sign up for email notifications.

Get Ready to Apply Presentation Information

I encourage all Juniors and their parents to attend my Get Ready to Apply presentation on Wednesday, February 27th.  I will go over all the steps you need to take between now and the beginning of senior year, including applying to college, finding scholarships, college requirements and more.

College Search Worksheet - use this to track everything you learn about each college you are interested in. The file is a Word document so you can delete and add information based on what you want to know.
