√ MIXED CHORUS

74051      1 Yr.     9-12

Prerequisite: No previous singing experience required.
Special Requirements: There may be entry fees, travel, and dress expenses borne by the student. Out-of-school rehearsals and performances are a part of the instructional program, and attendance is required. This course meets requirements for fine arts or practical arts credit.
Activity Fee: $60.00 (Student fees range up to, but not to exceed $100.00/year - includes robe rental.)

Description: This is a beginning chorus for first-time high school singers in which students learn good vocal techniques, begin sight reading, develop an ability to sing musically, and experience a wide variety of music literature and styles.

√ TREBLE CHOIR II (5th Avenue)

Prerequisite: Audition/permission of instructor
Special Requirements: Out-of-school rehearsals and performances are a part of the instructional program, and attendance is required. This course meets requirements for fine arts or practical arts credit.
Activity Fee:
Student fees range up to, but not to exceed, $100.00/year for materials, accompanists, and some costume expenses. Additional entry fees, travel, and dress expense will be borne by the student.
Description: The 5th Avenue chorus performs music of a wide variety of choral styles and musical periods. Emphasis is placed on challenging choral literature and advanced choral techniques. Choreography is frequently used. Out of town travel is optional. Extra fees will apply and are approximately $500.00.

√ SWING CHOIR (Main Street)

Prerequisite: Audition or permission of instructor
Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in another chorus and permission of chorus teacher is necessary.
Special Requirements: Out-of-school rehearsals and numerous performances are a part of the instructional program, and attendance is required. Entry fees, travel, and apparel expense borne by students. This course meets requirements for fine arts or practical arts credit.
Activity Fee:
Student fees range up to, but not to exceed, $100.00/year for materials, accompanists, and costume expenses.
Description: This is an advanced chorus performing a variety of choral styles and musical periods. This group is limited in size with an emphasis placed on quality entertaining literature: popular, jazz, rock, folk, Broadway, and contemporary music. Choreography is frequently used. Out-of-town travel is optional. Extra fees will apply and are approximately $575.00.

√ CONCERT CHOIR I

Prerequisite: Audition/permission of instructor
Special Requirements: Out-of-school rehearsals and performances are a part of the instructional program, and attendance is required. Entry fees, travel, and dress expense will be borne by the student. This course meets requirements for fine arts or practical arts credit, and satisfies the graduation requirement that a student must earn one (1) career cluster, workplace readiness or language credit.
Activity Fee: (The activity fee includes robe rental.) Up to, but not to exceed $100.00 per year for materials, accompanists, and costume expenses.
Description: The student enrolled in the Concert Choir develops musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. This course is offered to any male or female desiring the opportunity to sing in an advanced choir and requires instructor approval and audition. The student/singer experiences diverse styles of choral literature. The student receives instruction that enables him/her to connect, examine, imagine, define, try, extend, refine, and integrate music study into other subject areas. Literacy is integrated throughout the course. Concert Choir I provides instruction in fundamental vocal development, performing, conducting, listening and analyzing music, in addition to focusing on the specific text being sung. The student develops the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent to the audience. He/She is encouraged to take private voice lessons to facilitate his/her vocal improvement. The student performs publicly as a culmination of daily rehearsal and music goals and demonstrates mastery of basic choral technique. Skills and knowledge acquired in this course can be applied to the United States Department of Education Audio-Video Technology & Communications Career Cluster and respective pathways and the New Mexico Arts and Entertainment career cluster. *This group will participate in and be rated at Festival and at the NMAA State Choir Competition.
